What To Expect From This Site

What To Expect From Us:

First and foremost, we want everyone to know that this blog was created for the sole purpose of us sharing our personal opinions, advice, and experiences along our money saving journey! We will NOT post matchups with store ads and coupons (there are several awesome sites that already do this and we will post their links on our page). We do NOT do "big hauls" on our shopping trips. If we come across a good deal we may stock up on several items, however all of our shopping trips are usually small and simple (but cheap or FREE!) We only buy a sufficient amount of things we need (typically about 6 months worth - it will always go on sale again!) or we buy things to donate for worthy causes. We are NOT shelf clearers! We do not see the need in buying 500 cans of tuna or 300 packages of noodles just because we can! Our couponing/saving style is simple yet effective. And we hope you can learn something from us on this new money saving adventure!

Tidbits For The Home!

This page is for tips and tricks for saving money around the house, after all every penny adds up!
Using several of these tips can be helpful at cutting energy costs around the home, many DIY tips and projects around the home can end up being big savings compared to costly service fee's/unnecessary expenses. SO this being said embrace the handyman/woman side of yourself! Please feel free to share any tips you may have as well.

~ I know you have heard it a thousand times, but making sure that all lights/appliances/tv's not being used at the moment should be turned off. Keep in mind that even though it may not be in use at the moment, if it's plugged into an outlet it is still drawing in electricity my friends, so be sure and unplug it if it's not in use and you will notice your electric bill drop.

~ In the summer time cooking with a crock pot keeps the house cooler because it doesn't heat the kitchen like using the oven/stove and your air conditioner isn't having to work overtime also saving energy. An added plus is it makes the house smell delicious.

~ Something you may want to consider is Freezer cooking aka Once a month cooking.  It stocks the freezer in one day for a whole month, and makes meals quick and easy by just popping them in the microwave or oven. It also keeps you from running through the drive thru spending $$ and it is healthier then fast food too.

~Keep your vehicles tuned up and maintained, this can help prevent hefty repair bills.

~ If you have a green thumb and the extra time keep an herb garden, herbs are expensive but growing them at home not only saves money, but fresh herbs are tastier than dried store bought. Adds a nice aroma as well!

~ Invest in some nice down comforters and throws, you can lower the heat at night in the winter saving energy and still be warm!

~ Invest in some good thick dark curtians/shades and they will help block the sun/heat and keep the house cool on those HOT days.

~ Whenever possible, wash clothes in cold water! It saves from running your water heater as much!

~ Always empty your lint trap on your dryer after each load. And if you use dryer sheets, be sure to wash your filter with soap and water to remove the sticky residue left behind from the dryer sheets! This will help your clothes dry faster, and potentially prevent a house fire! Eek!

~ Noticing that long trail of pesky ants in your kitchen sink and on your counters? Just pour some white vinegar in a spray bottle and spray directly on ants and any surfaces they're on and get rid of them safely! White vinegar is cheaper than ant spray and nontoxic (so safe for your kids and pets!)

~ To make window cleaning easy and cheaper, make your own solution by mixing 2 tbsp of white vinegar to a gallon of water and wash those windows with the leftover newspapers you bought for the coupons and sale ads! If the vinegar smell is too strong for you, substitute lemon juice or club soda instead and voila! Streak-free windows!

~ We love our swiffer sweepers! But those refills are expensive! Be sure to always flip your cloth over to the other side when it gets dirty before throwing it away (wet or dry cloths)! You'll be amazed at how much you cut down how many you use. Or to save even more money when cleaning lightly, make your own cloths by using old shirts or dish towels and throw them in the laundry when you're done!

We have so many more tips/ideas to share so keep checking back for new postings and share some yourself!
